I just got back after some wonderful experience in FOSSASIA 2015 in Singapore! As I mentioned in my previous post, I was invited in the conference to speak on Git version control and how to begin contributing to KDE Community.
It was a great time there in the conference connecting with people and learning new cool things going on in the open-source community. There were multiple tracks on open-source hardware/software, mozilla tracks, devOps etc going in parallel. With some really experienced people giving the talks on things they have extensively worked on, I really enjoyed the time spent in the conference!
So, I spoke on the importance of git in the distributed teams and why it is an essential thing in the open-source briefly talking about the difference of it with svn version controlling systems. Touching on the basics of git, I talked about the bare essential things one need to know in order to start highlighting the various protocols to start working. I laid some emphasis on pulling, working with and then making patches thereby showing the audience how to start putting patches especially in reference to KDE Community. I further talked about some good git habits developers should carry to ensure consistency in their projects and a better tracking mechanism. I also talked about Plasma Media Center in which I had worked in my Google Summer of Code 2013 time.
You can view the talk presentation here.
I wish to thank the FOSSASIA Community, Hong Phuc Dang and Mario Behling for giving me this opportunity to be a part of the conference. It was an experience worth being in.
I also wish to thank KDE and Google for supporting my travels and accommodation. Without their support, I could not have managed to avail this chance.
Looking forward to contribute even more to the open-source software and make the world a better place! :)
